The CMDs are a group of rare genetic neuromuscular disorders that currently have no cure or treatment. Children with CMD are born with serious muscle weakness, and their muscles break down faster than they can repair or grow. Some children are never able to walk; those that do lose this ability by the time they are in their early teens, and shortly thereafter they become dependent on respirators to breathe. The disease is often fatal by the time a child reaches his 20s.

Mike has decided to join Team Cure CMD in their race for a cure in the upcoming San Jose Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon on Sunday, October 3rd. Our friend Eunice’s 4yr-old daughter Sophie suffers from Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, yet she remains such a sweet, spirited girl. Mike was moved to join the race after hearing her story. Here’s a short video of Sophie when she first gained the ability to walk at age 2.
